STREET LAMP advice.

Not only do we have an annoying street light which shines brightly into our bedrooms at night but it does not seem to switch off ever.

Any tips for dealing with this kind of problem?

Supercare Pharmacy

Untitled-2

A Supercare Pharmacy has recently opened near Coburg Station at Coburg Pharmacy 4 Less, 1 Louisa Street, Coburg. If a person is unwell after-hours, residents can have peace of mind knowing that a pharmacist and dedicated nursing service are available locally; and may help avoid the long wait times often faced when visiting a hospital emergency department.

What do people do with them? Can you recycle them?

Does anyone want them?

Please post ideas on the blog!

Rabbit

Untitled-2

Found Wednesday morning: one sweet grey rabbit lost in Newlands. Tame-ish but not tame enough to catch by two people running late for work. Last seen heading toward the creek to rampantly breed with other rabbits there.

TD in the Pub

Untitled-2

TD in the Pub is back for 2018! It's a relaxed space where folks can kick back, grab a drink, and learn about the world we live in and what we can do about it! Anyone is welcome... this month Craig, a Darebin local and engineer will be talking about oil and energy.

What: TD in the Pub: Energy and oil, where it comes and where it goes.
Time and Date: 7.00pm - 8.30pm, 27th March Tuesday.
Where? Hard Rubbish Cafe, 670 Plenty Road.

Details:

TD in the Pub is back for 2018! It's a relaxed space where folks can kick back, grab a drink, and learn about the world we live in and what we can do about it! Anyone is welcome... this month Craig, a Darebin local will be talking about oil and energy.

World population increased along with our energy usage and technology;  from slave power, wood power, coal power, electricity, and oil. This talk will be looking at the energy supplies of individual countries and the world, to consider how uses have changed from the 1970s to the present. We will then discuss what this means for us today and regarding our energy future. Craig's practical experience working as an engineer in offshore and onshore oil and gas, and theoretical research he has done will help us understand the complex energy system we rely on.

More about the presenter:

Craig is an engineer who has worked in offshore and onshore oil and gas, the chemical industry and in hard rock mining; both in Australia and overseas. Craig started building his and his wife, Sally's sustainable house in 1999, and were the second house to install grid-connected solar panels in Melbourne. They now run the house from a battery solar system, have retrofitted old windows and doors, run four independent water systems and are currently installing solar hydronic heating.

🌟      What we do on the retreat ðŸŒŸ
Respectful to culture, the retreat begins on Sunday afternoon with a traditional Balinese welcome and story share, continues for 6 days and 5 nights, ending at midday on the following Friday.
This is not your standard goal setting, achieve more, make more jobs for yourself, write a list, you’ll be happier/more successful/make more money when you… Ra Ra kind of business mentoring. This is about taking time to stop and listen to your core aches and yearnings. Time to reflect more deeply on how you want to feel, why you do what you do, If you have any dissatisfaction about the way you are working, any sense that you are off the path but not even sure why or how, caught in groundhog day, feel burnt out or a bit resentful about the state of your profession, your patients, your colleagues…or just a bit over it and wondering what’s next and how to make decisions about what to do, then this is definitely for you!
You don’t have to be burnt out either – you could just be starting out and wondering how to find your authentic style and voice in your profession. It often starts with clarity but gets so drummed out by the time we finish our degree we don’t know where to find it! Or know if it is really safe to voice it even.
Every day we explore a series of processes to lead you to clarity of understanding your core values, your purpose, potential and your true authentic voice. That voice that distinguishes you from everyone else in your profession and really sets you apart – and at the same time brings you together, busting that sense of isolation and competition, as you come to see that there really is no competition, because no one can ever offer what you offer!
Is it the kind of business/personal development you need? It’s not something anyone else is talking about much for health professionals. There’s so much focus on the clinical side of business generally that this is so often neglected and we think a huge part of why there are such high rates of burnout among health professions.
There is also plenty of time for Q and As and nuts and bolts of business, both with Gill and I as well as the whole group of experience to draw from. How do you…? When do you…? Why do you…? We all have so much to share! I can’t wait for all the juicy discussions around the meal table with so many wonderful practitioners as we drink kombucha and coconut water and pass the plates or organic, garden supplied food around. Bring your notebook and pen to meals for sure as the conversations are as juicy as the organic tumeric jamu!
We start every day with movement and meditation before breakfast. After the workshops, there’s many hours off every day to eat INCREDIBLE organic food, lay pool-side, swim, have massage, walk in the monkey forest, explore the organic food and herb gardens and animals, chat with like-minded practitioners running business, visit a Balinese healer or day spa, stretch, move, meditate, soak up the sunshine and rest in the shade… Mmmmm….

Petition

Untitled-2

Dear Residents, In the 5 March edition of The Moreland Leader, you may have seen an article regarding the long over-due museum in D-Division .    If you have not heard of the museum this is explained below.      We are asking people to sign our petition at https://www.change.org/p/save-historic-d-division-pentridge-before-it-disappears        To-date the petition has reached 1,195 signatures, which is a good effort but more would be kindly appreciated.         Pentridge Community Action Group at https://www.facebook.com/PentridgeCommunityActionGroup.PCAG/;

email: pentridge-community-action-group@googlegroups.com; save-coburg@googlegroups.com

There are also some other actions that people might wish to consider:

  •  Email or phone the Planning Minister and ask the Government to purchase D-Division to create a museum for all Victorians. A simple 3-word sentence is all that is needed ‘Please buy D-Division’ (but write more if you feel like it and have time). Hon. Richard Wynne (03)86830964  richard.wynne@parliament.vic.gov.au
  • Email or phone the Member for Brunswick, Hon. Jane Garrett, (03)938 41241, (03)8685 1555, 31 Nicholson St, Brunswick East,jane.garrett@parliament.vic.gov.au; Member for Pascoe Vale, Ms Elizabeth (Lizzie) Blandthorn, (03) 9354 9935, 416a Bell Street, Pascoe Vale lizzie.blandthorn@parliament.vic.gov.au

From: Pentridge Community Action Group.
Future Estate, developer of the southern part of Pentridge, has put historic bluestone D-Division up for sale.  Its future is under threat.
Ned Kelly's remains were transferred to D-Division in 1929 after his hanging at the Old Melbourne Gaol in 1880; they remained at Pentridge until 2009. D-Division also functioned as the main female prison in Victoria until 1956.  One of its most famous women prisoners was Adela Pankhurst, the suffragette and anti-war activist, who was imprisoned there in 1917. Later D-Division became the Remand Division, housing those awaiting trial.
The 'commercial real estate' advertisement for D-Division contains no mention of the legal requirement for a properly curated museum. Yet as long ago as 2000, Justin Madden, the then Planning Minister, stated that, “a museum...will be built on the [Pentridge] site” (The Age, 29 January 2000).
A legal agreement between the site’s owner and the Victorian Heritage Council in 2008 required that parts of D Division be devoted to “historical interpretation and museum administration”.  In 2016, a heritage permit (H1551) for mixed-use development in D-Division’s exercise yards mandated the creation of a museum comprising, “eight D-Division ground-floor cells, the remaining intact exercise yard and the single-story north annex building”.
D-division has been neglected by successive developers and its history eroded by a variety of poorly thought-out actions.  For example, painting of the building has obliterated prisoners’ writings and drawings on the cell walls. What more will be lost?
Future Estate is asking $4.5 million for this historic building, whose future is touted for uses such as a hostel for backpackers. Given the continued unwillingness by developers to comply with key heritage requirements, the time for action has arrived.  We believe that the State Government should buy D-Division and establish a museum in a site that has local, state, and national significance.
Please sign this petition to insist that the current government create the long-promised museum that will make the history of D-Division accessible to all.
