This special event 'Community Talks Safe Spaces’ is an opportunity for conversation and reflection in our community re our concerns about violence and creating safer spaces.
This event has been created by one of the singers in the Trolls Carmen Lahiff-Jenkins together with her partner…
My son Quinn who is a teenager with autism, was beaten savagely outside a Melbourne High school in May by boys with spanners. There is something so sad and very wrong about young boys doing this, what would compel such fear and anger in them? Everyone has the right to feel safe in the community, but the fact is we don’t all feel safe. Women, people with disabilities, LGBTIQ communities, children and the elderly are the groups that are at highest risk of violence in public spaces, let alone in the home. And men are at highest risk of suicide. Is something broken in our communities?
Carmen has invited a panel of amazing speakers (see the link) to discuss these issues - it is a free event so even if you do not feel like singing please come and support the discussion. Please tell all your mates and share share share this link on Facebook or via email, help Carmen spread the word - thanks folks!
