We have a free queen size mattress with wool covered pillow top.
Always used with a mattress protector (which you can have if you want it).
There are some cosmetic marks on the underside from rubber on joist in the bed frame that the mattress sat on otherwise in good nick.
We've upgraded and no longer need.
