Hi All,
Well we never left really!
I would like to extend a special welcome to the multitude of new members who have signed up with us over the last 6 months and the flood of enquiries during the COVID lockdown clearly speaks to the number of people who were accessing the creek. Our work is a fair selling point I will admit; why wouldn't you want to join us as we continue transforming this wonderful pocket of the metropolitan North of Melbourne!?
We are making a very welcome, though tentative return to the world of organised planting events. We had a listed calendar event for this coming Sunday June 21st 1-3 PM and we will proceed with the activity with some modifications to our usual program on planting days.
Sadly, catering is out! Curse the COVID! We have no choice with this one and we encourage anyone who attends to bring ample fluid for hydration, snack foods and a cuppa in the thermos if you are that way inclined.
There will be a limit on the number of people who can assemble as per current Victorian regulations and we will need to adhere to these for obvious reasons - as such I am asking for a confirmation of attendance so that we can manage attendees accordingly; not our usual process but this is necessary. We have more than enough space on site to meet and perhaps set new rules on social distancing - you will get your very own 4 square meters and plenty more if you want. We also have a number of potential work areas to utilise on the day so can easily spread people far and wide so please don't feel that there may not be a place for you - we always have work to be done and you know the area we have covered with our reveg work; there will be safe distancing for all.
We will not be supplying gloves. You must bring your own for hand protection - I find I keep my hands off my face way more effectively when gloved up!
FoEC tools will be available and there will be cleaning stations for tools to maintain hygiene before and after use. No tools will be shared unless it is between parents/children/families/partners. You are also welcome to bring your own tools though we are not able to assume responsibility for them so have them clearly marked as yours.
The event will be hosted (at a distance of course) and we will maintain a sign in book with names only, no signatures will be required so that the host is the only person touching the pen! The host will also help with orienting people to the days activities and to help with keeping us all distanced and safe.
The planting site is easily accessed by crossing the concrete bridge and heading up the escarpment (to the right after the bridge) to the high voltage power line tower. We will have people on site earlier in the day if that suits you, though again I ask that you confirm an earlier attendance with me so we can keep track of numbers of assembled persons.
We have showers forecast and there will be a need for solid, preferably waterproof footwear. Rain coats are a recommended optional extra.
I can be contacted on 0428 130 268 should you have any questions.
See you on the creek!
Regards,
David.
How wonderful to hear about the clean-up! I'm hoping that I can come for the last hour if other commitments can be sorted. I live very near the Merri by the suspension bridge and have discovered Edgar's creek during COVID - it has been one of the great joys of this bizarre time.
ReplyDeleteIs there a chance that you could upload the history of Edgars Creek back onto the Newlands newsletter link? I'd love to know more but the link doesn't work anymore.
Best wishes, Susi
