Community Garden Open Day - Postponed!

Here we are again in lockdown. We send our thoughts and good will out to all of you & hope everyone is getting some nice Merri Creek walks in and cooking feasts!
We were sad to postpone our Community Garden Launch (again!) this Saturday at Newlands. But we will be back once restrictions are over to invite everyone in to plant and plan the beautifully landscaped space. Next week our planter boxes will go in and next up will be the plant design.

In other exciting news, the new NECCHi Program will be launched into the world mid-June! We will be offering a range of fun, all-ages events and programs, plus our fab regular programs. We can't wait to share.

Covid Support
Fresh, easy food can be a challenge during lockdown. NECCHi supports a range of organisations that provide some pretty awesome free meal options to those that need it:
  • Food not Bombs is an all-volunteer global movement that shares free vegan meals as a protest to war and poverty.
  • FoodAngels Mutual Aid are are a group of queers in Naarm providing food support for other queers in crisis.
  • Opposite Newlands House, Northpoint Centre on Tuesday 12pm to 1:30pm is there for you for free fresh food.
  • There is always our fab community of Neighbourhood Houses close by at Reynard St and Brunswick who also provide food bank relief and delish homemade meals!

Newlands Senior Citizens Centre across from Newlands House is a COVID testing centre at the moment and next to the Coburg  Library is also a COVID vaccination centre (you'll need to book).

Circuit Breaker Cookies!

In the meantime you can watch our local resident Ida make some cookies as a part of our community cooking program. It's very cute! Our personal preference is for chocolate chips over sprinkles but you be the judge... Thanks to Ida and family for letting us in to their Coburg home.

Take care until we re-open after this hopefully short lockdown period!

Kate Hill Free Workshops
Over June and July, local artist Kate Hill is undertaking an Artist in Residence at NECCHI, where she is creating a series of clay sculptures to be installed in our new community garden. We invite you to drop in and join some of her activities each Monday from Monday June 7th until Monday July 19th. Activities include: making ceramic forms by hand; planting and caring for the garden; and walking, drawing and collecting litter on the merri merri on wurundjeri woi wurrung land. The making of ceramic forms will be an indoor and outdoor activity, with seating available. The walks on the creek will require sturdy shoes and warm clothing. All materials and tools provided

You can book for her free ceramic workshops via our website or drop by and we can do it!
