Community Action

Untitled-2

Lego stunt

During 2022 Homelessness Week in Australia, Melbourne City Mission will stage a publicity stunt in which approximately 7,000 tiny LEGO and DUPLO brick houses will be built on Parliament House steps in Melbourne to highlight the urgent need for youth housing in Victoria to end the youth homelessness crisis.

In 2021, the height of the pandemic, over 42,000 young people came to a homelessness service on their own. Young people represent approximately 25% of the homelessness population, however, very few landlords and social housing providers offer their houses to young people.

The purpose of this event is to raise awareness of the urgent need for a youth homelessness program and more housing for teens and young people who are unable to live at home often due to family breakdown and family violence.

What we need

We are asking for donations of second-hand LEGO and DUPLO. These blocks will be given to our refuges and other homelessness programs that support toddlers and small children after the event.
