Hi FoEC'ers and friends,
A couple of items to cover off in this post:
First, we are planting at the Norfolk Court site (AKA Caravan Park Site) this Sunday, July 17th.
As per my usual spiel, the formal time of 1.00 - 3.00 pm is listed and for those wanting an earlier start and finish, you'll catch us on site from much earlier than that. If you are keen to be super early please let me know and we can contact you to let you know when we get on site to start laying out plants and materials etc. We have some super easy terrain to plant into this weekend with an extension along the rock path close to Norfolk Court and also a little bit of more mountain goat terrain too with shrubs and trees in the escarpment area. The forecast is for a 15-degree day with precipitation likely lantern in the afternoon and evening so early birds might just be the dry birds too! Waterproof jackets/coats would be a good idea and we are still not in the catering game - thanks COVID! So bring water and food. We have all the tools that are required and gloves too, though best practice would be BYO given our COVID safe practice requirements.
My second area to cover relates to recent changes to FoEC committee and appointed positions.
After many years of working together (since formation in 2006 and our first plantings in 2007, Stephen Northey has decided that the time was right for him to take a step back from FoEC activities. He has formally resigned his position as Treasurer, though he can't yet escape the mantle of immediate past president until I take that one! He was instrumental in FoEC sprouting initially and after many years of growth and his significant contribution in terms of hours, advocacy and strategic input FoEC will now meander along without him! Also, Robert Burnett (AKA Robstock) has also decided to step back from the appointed role of Works Manager. He has also been with FoEC since 2007. I'm not sure that he can be replaced - who else will bring their push mower down to the creek to clean up a site for planting and his sheer number of hours in maintenance works will be sorely missed.
Thanks, guys!
This opens up a new path forward for FoEC. Our remaining committee (Me and Rob Urquhart) remain committed to FoEC continuing into 2023 and beyond. We also have support from a number of other FoEC'ers including Lisa and Ben Davis and Scott Fry and many of the regular crew that will be reading this. We will need a new treasurer so if anyone is interested please contact me to talk about the nuts and bolts of the job. If anyone else would like to take up any other roles in FoEC's committee or pick up some of the Works Manager duties please reach out.
At the end of the day - FoEC is what it is because of the people that make it what it is.
Thanks for all your support people and let's keep planting, maintaining, and advocating!
See you on the creek!
David Pavone
President
