What: Voices from the frontline of the climate crisis: an urgent call to action from the NT
When: Saturday 23 November 2024 – 2.30pm Smoking Ceremony, 3-4.30pm Panel Discussion and Q & A
Where: Coburg Town Hall, 90 Bell St, Coburg VIC 3058
Here are the incredible speakers you’ll hear from:
- Ray Dimakarri Dixon is a Mudburra elder and musician from Marlinja, Northern Territory. He has been fighting to protect his water, Country and community from fracking for over a decade.
- Miliwanga Wurrben is a Rembarrnga woman from Central Arnhem land, but now lives in Katherine. She describes herself as a traditional healer, weaver and midwife.
- Joni Wilson is a Yanyuwa and Garawa Traditional Owner. She has been fighting to protect her Country alongside her family for many years.
- Asman Rory is a Gudanji Garawa man. He is a strong voice for his community and Country and has been fighting for them for many years.
- Mililma May is a Danggalaba Kulumbirgin Tiwi woman. She is a community organiser and freelance writer. She has supported grassroots movements across the Top End in the fight for Aboriginal self-determination and liberation.
- Dr Louise Woodward is a Northern Territory paediatrician from Darwin who has been using her voice and expertise as a doctor to raise the alarm about the health impacts of the Middle Arm gas hub and Beetaloo fracking.
Many of Australia’s dirtiest gas expansions are planned for the NT and big polluters are about to start digging on land and at sea.
Traditional Owners need our help to pressure the Albanese Government to block handouts for these projects and call them in for assessment under our nature laws.
MC’d by Environment Centre Northern Territory's Executive Director Kirsty Howey, this town hall will bring together local climate and nature advocacy groups from across Naarm (Melbourne).
Let’s unite as people who care deeply about protecting our wonderful, natural world. Let’s raise our voices so they’re louder than those of the big gas polluters.
We look forward to seeing you there! For the protection of Country, water and our climate,
