Fundraiser

Hello Newlands,

Wishing you all a Happy Easter over the long weekend. 

Today I am writing to you all in need of donations and fundraising for an event my cert 3 Auslan (Australian Sign Language) class at Melbourne Polytechnic is hosting on June 13th 2015. 

This event is an assessment for our class. But id like it to be more than that. To have a purpose. 

Using this event, we hope to create more Deaf Awareness and to raise money for VCD (Victorian College of the Deaf) the last Deaf school in Victoria and one of the last in Australia. 

If you or your business have anything they'd like to donate to help us fundraise, we would appreciate it very much. 

Any Deaf, Hard of Hearing, signers, or people with no knowledge of Auslan from the Newlands community,  that would like to help support our event are most welcome to come along on the day and enjoy are carnivale family friendly day. There will be food, jumping castle, craft activities and games. I will post our event poster on the blog when it's ready.

Circus Latino

We went to Circus Latino and had a fantastic time! 

Skilled and astonishing performers in an intimate sized big-top made us feel close to everything. It's that circus experience beloved in the memories of all of us from our childhoods. They're there by Reservoir Lake until mid April. Enjoy!

Fundraising

A colleague of mine has launched a fundraising campaign to help communities in Tongoa, Vanuatu rebuild after Cyclone Pam:

She spent much of the last 2 years in Vanuatu conducting her PhD research. Tongoa was one of her field sites, and it suffered heavy damage. Up to 70% of houses lost in a number of villages. Emergency relief has been mobilized. However, they need support to rebuild their communities.

She is aiming to raise around $2,500-5,000 to fund building materials to repair houses and ground wells, and seedlings for their gardens.

MECCARG

Hello Neighbours and Friends.

Our next MECCARG activity is scheduled for this Saturday April 4th.

We will be meeting at our usual time of 1-3 at the usual spot on the Merri Creek south of the Murray Rd bridge.

Come along and give us a hand with general weeding and tidying...

A chance for parents, babies and toddlers to get together and sing in a fun and playful environment. Learn songs and harmonies from a range of repertoire. A space to experience the joy of singing in a welcoming environment, connect with other parents and your little one through music making. 

Led by Eva Popov - songwriter (Hello Satellites), music teacher and facilitator.

WHEN: Tuesday mornings 10 - 11 (singing) followed by cups of tea

COST: $15 for casual or $120 for the term (11 weeks)
