Rites of Passage Premiere- ACMI, 20 0ctober 2013‏

Untitled-2

Hi all,
Come along and support this amazing film project. I know the director, Phil Crawford and he and young people involved in the making of this film have put their heart and souls into it.See the information below. Please pass on to those who you think will be interested.

Hope to see you there

Monique xx

I wanted to let you know about this film Rites of Passage and to see if you would like to come to a screening of it. It's a unique film made by a group of disadvantaged young people about their lives and it's a film that is stimulating a dialogue about what is happening in the lives of young people today.

The Organisers are bringing some of these young people to the Premiere of the film in Melbourne. I am hoping that you can help us give the young people involved in the making of the film an opportunity to see their film premiere in a real cinema. And give all of us the opportunity to see this amazing looking film in a cinema venue as well!

The organisers have made a booking at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image and they need to confirm it by the end of September. They need to sell enough tickets to cover the cost of the venue. If we can get behind them and help to sell enough tickets the film will screen at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image. If they don't sell enough tickets, the screening will still go ahead on the date advertised, but it will be screened in a more intimate venue.

If you think it looks worthwhile then we should all invite colleagues and friends and get them to buy tickets and buy them early. The organisers will need to confirm bookings on the cinema a few weeks before the screening.

Thanks for reading and having a look at this. I think it will be a really fantastic event.

"Rites of Passage is among the most remarkable and moving films produced in Australia in recent years" - Evan Williams, film critic, The Australian

    FoEC Planting!

    Untitled-2

    Hi Friends and Members,

If you have been down at the Ronald Street area in the last 24 hours you will have seen a beautifully prepared planting site beneath the red gums near the foot bridge (thanks Moreland CC for help with the mulch and preparation on this site). Suffice to say this is our planting site. Super easy to access so no explanations needed. This is "Christmas in September" planting and will be followed by a celebratory toast to the planting season of 2013. We will also be opting for easier catering this year - pizzas will be ordered as well! To add to the community celebration we may have some local musicians in attendance so if you had an easy to carry instrument such as a guitar/jembe or other instrument bring it along as we may have some informal jamming happening. I'll be bringing my didgeridoos!

The forecast is favourable for the day with evening rain predicted with 21 degrees during the day.

As usual Rob and I will be on site from around 10.30-11.00 AM and all are welcome to come along earlier and assist with set-up of the planting and other tasks

See you on the creek! And afterwards for a celebration of another great FoEC'ing year.

    Kind regards,
    David Pavone
    President FoEC.

    Free Post Election Therapy‏

    Untitled-2

I'm suspecting that this Sunday 8th September, I'll particularly enjoy spending time with the lovely Newlands community as a form of post election therapy. Got to be grateful for the good things we will still have. So ...isn't brilliant that last year, we selected that day for the
    NEWLANDS GARDENS FOOD SWAP!!!!!!
Usual place and time: Hutchinson Place 2-3pm
Usual story: bring yourselves and things food and garden related to swap; potting mix, pots and rooting hormone available; good local company.
All welcome, even if it is just for a chat.

Remember to collect snails for the Food Swap!!!!

With that lovely rain on Thursday, snails are on the move and unless you are on Concrete Island, you should have some nearby. People with chooks or ducks will be glad to get more snails that get transformed into eggs, magic!!! So bring that magic and your community spirit.
The weather should be just right and you will be able to plant what you get ahead of more rain on Monday

    All welcome.

Bring also your thoughts as to when the next food swaps should be, as no dates are set for next year and the 8th of December we have next may be too much into the silly season.

    Free: Queen Bed

    Untitled-2
Freebie Ikea QS bed, with fairly crap mattress and promise of a really nice one just as soon as I can buy a smaller one to go with my replacement smaller bed. I put the pillowtop mattress on top of the harder one (no, wait a minute - it doesn't have any lice in it!!) just to make it easy to make; otherwise the mattress sits in the frame.
Happy to help pay for transport if for asylum seekers or similar.
One of the legs of the bed was broken in the move to Northcote, but it stays together quite adequately with cable ties. I have a replacement piece of matching wood if you're really fussy and want to replace the leg (obviously I'm not). First come, first served. Of the current Ikea range, it looks most like the Fjellse, but more substantial and it was considerably more expensive than that some years ago.

    Free: Single Bed

    Untitled-2

We have a beautiful handmade single bed frame available in Reservoir. Made of wood with a painted design on the sides - a folk art style design in yellow and red. The frame has slats and sits on the floor (so no storage space underneath) but allows for airflow.

Great for small children transitioning into their own bed as they can easily climb in and out. Fits a single mattress snugly.

We can maybe assist with transport depending on where you live  - we are in Reservoir and have a van.

The picture shows the design and grain of the wood but includes the second bed frame which we have found a new home for.

FREE to a good home :)

    Best wishes,
    Sarah.
