Untitled-2

Hi Everyone.
The truck that was going to deliver the elephant poo broke down this morning and we won't be receiving our delivery until next Friday (or maybe even the one after).
Sorry about the hassle but do not despair there will be a plethora of poo in Newlands soon!!!
Have a great weekend.
Cheers Mel.

Elephant Poo!!!!!

Untitled-2
Hi Folks.

10 cubic meters of elephant poo (from the Melbourne Zoo) is being delivered to Newlands Primary School at the end of this week and we are hoping that everyone in the community will be interested in coming along and helping us disperse it around the neighbourhood.

At 2.00pm this Saturday March 1 please come to Newlands Primary School with a big bag, a wheelbarrow, a ute or a trailer and help yourself. It will be very close to the car park gates so will be easy to access.

As a bit of a fundraiser for the school we are thinking of charging:

$3.00 - $5.00 per bag (depending on the size)
$8.00-$10.00 per wheelbarrow (again depending on size)
$30.00 for a ute or trailer load

Please spread the word, we would like it to be completely gone before school starts on Monday morning!!!
If you have any questions please contact Mel at melmate@hotmail.com

Cheers from The Newlands Primary Garden Group.

Another Robbery!

Untitled-2

Sunday afternoon around 1.15pm another house was robbed, this time in Ballard Ave. The thieves smashed open the lock on the front door (which is visible from the street) and took jewellery and electronic goods. They'd obviously been watching to see when the family left as they only have one car and often the car will be gone but people will still be home.
I guess all we can do is keep a lookout for people hanging around or cruising, and ask our neighbours to do the same.

Workshops

Untitled-2
Hi!
We are running Silk Screen Printing classes and Introduction to Printmaking classes at our workshop in West Footscray.
These classes are great for beginners or anyone who has done some printmaking in the past and wants to get back into it.
It's a fantastic opportunity to do something with images and ideas that you have been collecting that you like and have always wanted to do something else with.
If you have any friends out West, can you pass this on for us!
Thanks so much.

Beer for a Cause

Untitled-2

Hi Newlanders and friends,
Sorry for re-posting, I just noticed it was posted on a really busy posting day and I didn’t want you to miss out J
I have some wonderful friends (Scott and Fiona) who own and run the Bright Brewery up in Bright http://www.brightbrewery.com.au/ .  They make great Beer from good quality ingredients – local where possible.
Unfortunately Fiona is also very sick with cancer as needs to come to Melbourne regularly for treatment.  She manages to come down by plane through a wonderful service called angel flights often. http://www.angelflight.org.au/index.cfm   Angel flights is so great because being unwell Fiona wants to be home and with her family when ever possible.  The drive is long and tiring and not something Fiona is up for on her own.
My proposal is that we put in an order for some great beer – pay the retail price but put the difference between retail and wholesale (Scott tells me about 15%) as a donation to angel flights.
I am not sure when Scott is next in Melbourne – if it is within the next month then I will hold off so we can also get free delivery.
So if you are keen, please have a look at the website www.brightbrewery.com.au have a look at the beers and then go to the order page to find the price.
Once you have decided what case you would like to order please email me (rachael.millsom@gmail.com) with your name, type of beer and number of cases you would like to order.
I have also just heard that the last bottling run of Blowhard Pale Ale is slightly under-carbonated (tastes just as good but is difficult to pour with a head) so they’re selling the whole lot as seconds and we can have it for ½ the retail price– so If you would like some please indicate clearly you would like the seconds and then indicate what you are prepared to pay (if you pay full retail still that means a bigger donation to Angel flights! – and that my friends is the aim of this exercise!)
I will then collate the order and send everyone an email with my bank details to put the money in and then I’ll make the order and the donation and let you all know how much we raised.
Please feel free to forward to friends and family who may be interested who could pick up from the Newlands area.
I look forward to hearing from the Beer drinkers of you soon! J

Light the Dark

Untitled-2

By now you may have have heard about the tragic turn of events on Manus Island that left one person dead and 77 injured.

We don't yet know if this new tragic low marks a turning point, if it's part of Australia's new status quo, or if it will finally be enough to make our Government rethink our cruel treatment of asylum seekers, the very people who need our help most. The truth is, we still don't really know happened because the Government won't tell us.

What we do know is that a young man lost his life in the most horrific way – while under our care, while detained in your name. His name was Reza Berati, a 23 year old from Iran. It was in July last year that he made the perilous journey by boat to seek refuge in Australia and instead of finding safety, he endured a nightmare.

Reza is not the first to die because of this policy: there are many others who have already taken their own lives whilst locked in Australian detention centres. But rather than acknowledging our failure to protect them, Immigration Minister Scott Morrison sent an email lauding today as a "significant milestone" in the Government's "strong resolve on our borders".

The only "milestone" reached this week was a new low for human rights in Australia. We live in hope that this horrible tragedy will be enough to make Australia rethink our treatment of asylum seekers. We're planning more action over the coming months – but for now, GetUp members, along with refugee advocacy groups around the country, will take a moment to remember Reza and the countless others who have died and suffered under our watch.

The Government has kept us in the dark for too long, so on Sunday grab all your friends and let's light up the dark!

We'll be gathering across the country, in homes, backyards, parks and churches to pay our respects to those we've failed to protect, and display the compassion that we know Australians are capable of. Together we will show that we care; that we will not allow our Government to abandon our duty of care to these fellow humans. We will gather to show hope and to give hope.

Will you join us for a candlelit display of compassion and hope?

When: Sunday 23 February, 8pm
Where: Federation Square, Melbourne
RSVP: https://www.getup.org.au/lightthedark-melbourne

Together we can light the dark,
the GetUp team

PS – If you're unable to attend on Sunday evening, GetUp members around the country are stepping up at a moment's notice to organise community snap action vigils in solidarity. They can be as large or as small as you like, it's the sentiment that counts. Click here to find out how you can get involved: https://www.getup.org.au/lightthedark

PPS – We're working alongside our incredible friends at the Refugee Action Coalition, Amnesty International, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Welcome to Australia, the First Home Project, the Canberra Refugee Action Committee, the Welcome Group and many other wonderful refugee advocates to light the dark this Sunday.

Roof Racks‏?

Untitled-2

Hi Newlanders.

We are heading out on a camping trip soon and as we no longer have a station wagon, we are in need of some roof racks.  So, we were wondering if anyone has some that they are willing to sell / lend.  If you have a roof basket thingy as well that would be fabulous.

Cheers,

Motorbike Theft Response

Untitled-2

Motorbike theft.....

I heard a motorbike on Ronald St, in the early hours of Monday morn, they seemed to be having trouble getting it going, so they kept going back up hill but it would konk out at our house, alas, I didn't get up to have a look but they would've been doing it for a good 15 mins, I was just hoping they would stop soon. I've had my car stolen from outside my house so they could be perpetrators!

Let me know if helps, sorry I didn't see anything though!

Cheers Jo Adams.

Giving Away 4 Month Old Cockerels

Untitled-2

Hi neighbours - we hatch out a clutch of chickens from our backyard flock once a year. The boys from last year’s hatch are about four months old now and will need to leave our property in the next two weeks. While I would love these boys to go to a home where they will be a valued, working rooster, I am not against them going to a home where they are going to be raised kindly and respectfully, and then killed and eaten the same way. I have one or two purebred Plymouth Rocks and four Plymouth Rock x Barnevelders. Both breeds are traditional dual purpose chooks - that means they are good egg layers (not the boys, obviously) and good meat birds. If you’d contemplate introducing one to your flock permanently I’m happy to have a chat about the differences you can expect in a flock with a rooster and some of the things we’ve learned about having them. I’ve got to say I love having something magnificent and a bit wild out in my backyard.

Coburg Farmers Market‏

Untitled-2

Coburg Farmer's Market - This Saturday.  8:00am til 1:00pm
Coburg North Primary School.  180 O'Hea St Coburg.

For the last few markets stall numbers have been down due to the weather and summer holidays.  The forecast for this Saturday is a wonderful 23 and stall numbers should be back to normal levels.  Come and get summer fruits before they finish, or a wonderfully crisp new season apple.  There were organic tomatoes at the last market, leeks were available again and there were some great Jalapeno peppers (I really enjoyed mine stuffed with cheese and baked).  It's the 4th Saturday which makes it bagel week too.  All fabulous reasons to come to the market, shop and while you are there feed the family from the Primary School's breakfast BBQ and pancake stall.

Entry: Gold coin donation for the school's kitchen garden program.

HEART Radiance:
Opening into the Heart of Oneness
Relax your Body, Clear your Mind, Live from the Heart

HEART Radiance’ is a simple but potent process that can be used any time, any place to activate the Heart Energy and to radiate Love and Grace into your surroundings.
In addition to creating a deep sense of fulfilment within the self, the frequency of your surroundings is also raised leading to profound effects within your life.

The HEART Radiance Program includes:
·   12 Immortals – Chi Kung longevity exercise
·   The Tree – Standing meditation merging with the energies of Nature
·   Resonant Tuning – Sitting meditation absorbing energies from Earth and Cosmos to open the Heart and allow Divine Love and Grace to flow through

The acronym ‘H.E.A.R.T.’ means Healing Energy and Awareness with Resonant Tuning.  The Healing of our physical Energy and our conscious Awareness takes place through the process of Resonant Tuning.
The abdominal and head key chakra centres are stimulated in such a way that the heart chakra is allowed to open fully and naturally accompanied by a host of benefits.
The abdominal chakra is the centre for our physical and also emotional Energy.  When we experience an emotion we do not like we often try to stop it thus blocking this Energy motion (E-motion).  This blocked energy can then impact upon our physicality.  Through the process of Resonant Tuning we program our energy body to allow our energy preference of EASE and FLOW.

The head chakra governs our thoughts and our Awareness.  In this fast paced world where we are bombarded with external stimuli our thought space can become overwhelmed with the multitude of thoughts we could be having.  Our attention can become scattered and our energy dissipated leading to stress and anxiety.  Resonant Tuning allows SPACIOUSNESS and FREEDOM within our thought space.

Found

Untitled-2

This white and beige (possibly juvenile) pigeon with beautiful feathered feet was found wandering around our driveway on Monday evening. It is very docile and we suspect domesticated. It seems to have little interest in moving on from our place, but we fear it will be killed by a cat or mynah birds.
Also suspect its wings have been clipped as it can't fly further than up to the window sill when approached.
We've door knocked houses in the surrounding streets with no luck.
Call us if you know anything!

Motorbike Theft

Untitled-2

Hello Residents,
At around 1:30 - 2am this morning of February 17 (2014)  did anyone hear a motorbike go into a house,
or hear noise from a backyard?  Our motorbike was stolen from in our driveway.  My partner quickly
got in his car and chased these people and came to near the hill on Jackson Pde.  He lost sight of them
near this point, probably as they turned quickly into Claremont, Boyne or Ballard Streets.  We don't
believe they knew they were being followed.  Two people were on the motorbike.  The passenger
was a very tall, slim person.  Do you have any neighbours with motorbikes, dirt bikes or trail bikes.
Any information that could lead to an arrest will remain confidential with Crimestoppers.
We would really appreciate any information no matter how small.  Thank you
The bike is a Honda CBR purple and yellow but could be stripped down for parts.  Anyone in the area
who is a handyman doing bikes up/selling etc....please can you let us know.
