Social Enterprise

Untitled-2

Social enterprise Scarf takes over Tuesday nights at North Fitzroy’s Jorg restaurant to get young people into their dream hospitality jobs. Spring Scarf Dinners start Tuesday 7th October and run weekly until 2nd December.

As featured in The Age, Broadsheet and Peppermint Magazine, Scarf catalyses the hospitality industry around an inspiring idea: to transform young people’s lives through mentoring, opportunity and paid experience in Melbourne’s best restaurants.

Bryce Bernhardt, head chef of Jorg (which recently scored 14.5 in The Age Good Food Guide 2015) will design and cook a two course set menu for $40 per head.

“Coming to a Scarf Dinner is more than just dining. It’s an experience, and you’re part of it. You actually get to know the young people you’re helping; there’s an immediacy to it,” says Scarf co-founder Hannah Colman, “And the food is phenomenal!”

More information can be found at www.scarfcommunity.org
Bookings for dinners are essential – Email bookings@scarfcommunity.org

The Raw Store

Untitled-2

We are a family owned and run, organic, sustainable, fair food store that operates as a membership-only community. Membership gets you everything at cost price.  You pay what we pay.  You decide what membership works best for you.

Organic markup is on average 40% and up to 100% on some products. Buying retail is stripping at least $5,400 annually from a $250 a week food budget. Imagine what buying everything from us would mean in savings for you! We stock a full food, household and personal items range including organic booze…

We stock only locally produced, certified-organic, hand-selected products that have been tested on our family so we know they are delicious, healthy and awesome.

We think:
·             Food should be free of refined sugar
·             GM’s a Frankenstein experiment
·             Local is best
·             How you buy food is a political statement and our model helps members be positive   activists.
·             Its everyone’s responsibility to reduce waste and packaging and our model makes it easy for members to do their bit
·             Our bodies and homes should be toxic free
·             Only sustainably produced palm oil should be used
·             Options aren't necessary if you have quality

And that’s how we hand selected every product in The Raw Store…Once you’re a member, come into our store on a Saturday and Sunday and do your shopping.

Free - Chewable Bracelet

We bought this chewable bracelet for our son who is in the habit of chewing his sleeves to bits. He absolutely refuses to chew on this bracelet, it hasn't even been out of its plastic bag.

We bought it new from Sue Larkey's website a few months back and it has sat in a drawer ever since.

It is made of silicon, is soft and flexible and hard wearing. It is non toxic and safe to chew.

If you would like it please make contact with Mel on 0404 043 010.

SECONDARY GLAZING custom made by Stopnoise for a Newlands house lounge or bedroom window.

It is brilliant for stopping draughts, about 95% at stopping noise, and helps reduce heat transfer.

Unobtrusive, easy to instal and maintain, most people don't notice it is there unless you point it out.

I now don't need the secondary glazing that kept my lounge room comfortable, so it can go to another Newlands home with a draught, noise and comfort problem.

Expensive to instal new, so I would like to get back somewhere near half the original cost.

Contact Mairi on 0425 859 016.

House Mate Wanted

Untitled-2

Hi all.

I am looking for a house-mate in Coburg North. $760.00 per month, plus bills.
Your room will be the big double one, so there is plenty of room for desk or tv or whatever. The rest of the house is fully furnished, although I will happily shed my stuff if you want to use yours. Yes, there is a big garage too.

My 14 year old pooch might struggle sharing with little kids or cats...He is fully house trained and sleeps most of the day, and he's never been a chewer!!

There's a bit of a vegi garden and a couple of fruit trees and really close to Edgars Creek.
I eat a mostly vego diet, but have no problem with your choice of diet. I'll happily cook most meals (just can't stop the chef training!).

It's a very friendly street, Ballard Ave, and I know most of residents and we often chat on the side of the road.

If you think it suits you or someone you know then please give me a call, thanks, Gigi.

Hi Newlands.

I would like to ask if anyone has access to or knows of anyone who would be happy to donate a working overhead projector to Newlands kindergarten.

I imagine that there are many unused overhead projectors in office store rooms around Melbourne.

We would definitely have use for one at kindergarten to use in our program, so if you can help please let me know. Please call the kinder on 9354 3293.

Regards,

Dorianne.

Wrapping Paper Donations

If you have any spare/used wrapping paper that's been cluttering up a cupboard too long, I'd be happy to take it off your hands. Used wrapping paper would be great as I'd like to reduce the environmental impact of a project I am working on, otherwise if your kids have outgrown the roll of cutesy paper you bought last year, or you don't want to use the same christmas wrapping paper, feel free to pass that on.
Thanks in advance Asha.
Please drop it off to Mel's house 29 Peterson Ave North Coburg.

NEEDED - old Weber kettle BBQ’s for backyard BBQ smoker project

Hi,

I’m on the hunt for some old Weber kettle BBQ’s that I can tear down to use as parts as I make some new BBQ smokers.

Specifically after lids, grills and handles from the 57cm diameter full size Weber kettles. Please email me at chris@kamen.com.au if you’d like me to take away the old clunker in the corner of your garage or yard!

…and with any luck I’ll soon be selling BBQ brisket rolls down at the farmer’s market on Saturdays.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

CK.
