Arrowsmith Program

Untitled-2
For Principals/Teachers and Parents:

"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree,
it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." - Albert Einstein.
Our kids are judged by their ability to read, write and add up.
But if you judge a dyslexic child by their ability to read, write and add up, they will live their whole life believing that they are stupid. Sadly, that is the case for many children who daily are asked to do the impossible.
The Woman Who Changed Her Brain, Barbara Arrowsmith-Young is here to give a talk about how the brain is not fixed (as was once thought) but in fact can be "rewired' based on the proven science principles of neuroplasticity.
Barbara Arrowsmith-Young, out of sheer determination to find a cause and a solution to her own debilitating learning difficulties, created the ingenious Arrowsmith Program, that deals with the root causes of learning disabilities.
Her vision is to see all schools 'catching' these children before they reach the road of despair, so they can finally learn for the first time in their lives.
Find out how you or your school can finally help these children.
From a parent with a dyslexic boy who knows first hand the immense emotional pain these learning difficulties have on a child.

 About the Arrowsmith Program
The Arrowsmith Program is a ground-breaking program for students with specific learning difficulties.
The program has helped thousands of children diagnosed with ADD, ADHD, dyslexia and dysgraphia to achieve academic and professional success.
The programs founder, Canadian psychologist Barbara Arrowsmith-Young, is an internationally recognised pioneer of neuroplasticity, who featured in the New York Times bestseller The Brain That Changes Itself by Norman Doidge.
The program has quickly grown in popularity, as both parents and teachers,
see amazing results in students with previously debilitating learning difficulties.
by 60 Minutes Australia recently highlighted Arrowsmith's astounding results. You can watch it by clicking on the blue link.

How It Works

The Arrowsmith Program is founded on neuroscience research and more than 30 years of experience showing that it is possible for students to strengthen the weak cognitive capacities that affect learning.
It has proven effective for students who have difficulty with readingwriting and mathematics, comprehension, logical reasoning, problem solving, visual and auditory memory, non-verbal learning, attention, processing speed and dyslexia.
The Arrowsmith Program is suitable for students across a broad spectrum of mild to severe learning problems and has been successful with both primary and secondary students, and even adults.
Students usually take part in a two to four year program, before returning to their regular grade level at school without the need for special education assistance.
Why It Works

In the past, assistance for students with specific learning difficulties has come in the form of programs which simply compensate for the difficulties they encounter in the classroom.
In contrast, the goal of the Arrowsmith Program is to identify and strengthen each individual students' area of dysfunction.
It deals with the root causes of the learning disability rather than managing its symptoms

The Arrowsmith program in Australia is in great demand by parents, particularly in Melbourne.

The program has being running in Canada for over 35 years and is now offered in 73 schools across Canada, USA, New Zealand and Australia with outstanding success.
In Australia there are now 11 schools offering the Arrowsmith program.  However they are all interstate, except for one school in Melbourne
(Holy Trinity Parish-St. Peter's Catholic Primary School) that joined this year.
The Melbourne school offered 30 spots and had over 80 applications. The demand for places in Australia is greater than the places available, with waiting lists that stretch for over two years, so many families sacrifice everything to go to Canada to access the program.
Currently there are 50 Australian families in the Canadian school in Vancouver, making the school 50% Australian!
Rosa Storelli the ex-MLC Principle believes in the program.  She has moved to Vancouver so her son can attend the Arrowsmith program.
For Melbourne schools that are interested:
Michael Juliff the principal of Holy Trinity Parish (St. Peter’s Catholic Primary School- Bentleigh), is committed to helping other schools in Melbourne who wish to introduce the Arrowsmith program.
He is a strong believer in the benefits and realises he cannot offer the program to all the families who are interested in attending.
He can be contacted on arrowsmith@holytrinityparish.org.au. Michael is very open to helping other schools
He is available to meet with principals and give a tour at St Peters every Tuesday.
Debbie Gilmore is the Australian representative for Arrowsmith.  She is a parent of an 18 year old boy who has had remarkable success with the program.
She is available to discuss the benefits of the program and the process for introducing to the school.
She can be contacted at dgilmore@arrowsmithprogram.ca
We the parents are the voice of our children, so please support us in advocating for the program to be introduced in more Melbourne schools, so it can become accessible to all families in need of the program.
