Hello, do you ride/walk down this dangerous laneway?
I am seeking fellow neighbours who walk/ride down this laneway and would like Darebin Council to make it safe for pedestrians.
Between No.71 Powell St and the single lane/go slow where Beatty and Cameran meet there is a single lane road running north/south. On Google maps, it is Powell St running north-south. The street sign states it is Birdwood St. It has signage that promotes it as being part of The Great Western Shimmy. In our family, we refer to it as "The Death Trap".
Perhaps I can inspire you to email Darebin Council?
Below are some of my inquiries/concerns that perhaps others have as well:
* I am interested to know if the council has done an audit on the traffic flow down this lane?
* As a part of a bike route, could this lane be closed to cars?
The southern end of the lane between Cameron and Haig has been blocked to cars and it would then be building on that safe pedestrian travel route.
*The area has no safe crossing point for pedestrians and cyclists to travel north/south.
* The "go slow" where Beatty and Cameran St meet the lane needs more signage.
* The areas approaching this intersection need speed bumps to deter/slow the traffic down.
*The southern end of the lane requires a safe pedestrian crossing point, that is not through the "go slow" area.
* The area needs more signage that cars are sharing the road with pedestrians/cyclists.
* Can there be a crossing put in here where cars are to give way to pedestrians?
Safe travels everyone.
