Community Refugee Initiatuve

Dear, Friends/Community,

Since becoming aware of the Community Refugee Initiative I have thought it would be something that I would like to get involved with, I am finally stepping into that space and looking for others who may also be interested in getting involved also.

We will need people/families who can help out on a regular basis as well as those interested in offering specific skills or limited availability (eg help with a fundraising event or step in when someone else is away on holidays.)

To start with we will be hosting an information evening on Tuesday 30th July at 7.30pm at Newlands Community Centre - (20 Murray Road, Coburg North).  Come along and bring a neighbour even if you are a bit curious.  Anyone who can volunteer to bring some supper that would be much appreciated.

My wonderful friend Naomi who works in this space supporting communities to do this and also who has supported a family to come out to Australia herself will lead the meeting and be available to answer any questions that we might have.

FREE - original Newlands estate linen cupboard and chest of drawers

We removed the original linen cupboard for our hallway.

We were using it for storage for a while but now have no room.

It's quite rustic, unpainted and original, with no back but shelves inside - would work well in a shed.

We also have a sweet compact chest of drawers, with bakelite handles.

Dovetail joint in drawers, slight damage to one side as per photo.

Approx 1200H x 350D x 800W.

Friends of Merri Creek @ Edgars Creek Maintenance Activity this Sunday

Hi All,

Sorry for the late prompt, though hopefully you've been able to see the calendar and reserve the time/date.

We will be undertaking further maintenance activities in the Caravan Park area - access from Norfolk Court entry or alternatively cross the creek behind the caravan park at the end of Elisabeth Street for a general clean up of guards and rubbish at the area cheekily claimed as "Pavone Reserve" (well I did plant a few hundred trees there and they were all home propagated!).

1-3.00PM, forecast is a partly cloudy day of  14 degrees max.

Local Retreat

Saturday Afternoon Retreat:  Theme - Connecting

Hosted By Rachael Millsom(she/her).  Rachael is an experienced yoga instructor and group facilitator, She currently teaches 3 regular classes through NECCHI, has previously run women's circles in the local community, and has also facilitated a number of weekend retreats over the years.  All offerings will be invitational, that means if any part of the afternoon is not working for you (e.g. movement or sharing) you can make the choice to pass or sit out of that activity/practice.

 

When: Saturday 22nd June from 2pm - 5pm

Where: Newlands - Lounge room

Who: Adults of all ages, genders, and backgrounds are welcome.  A basic level of fitness will allow you to participate in all offerings.

Cost: $50 / $37 conc

During our time together we will:

*Meet and connect with other locals over tea and a snack, 

*Take some time to connect with others as well as to listen to what is within you.

*Breathe: together we will learn/practice some breathing exercises that will support grounding and connection

*Move our bodies in a yoga practice.  Rachael will guide a flow class with options for where to take the practice 

*Rest together and be guided through some restorative shapes followed by a yoga nidra inspired relaxation

*Journal time (please bring paper and pen)

*Reconnect and share and prepare to head back into our lives.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a handyman/person for a small bathroom job? 

I have gutted our small bathroom but need help with preparing the floor and waterproofing before I tile.

Needed

Hi all,

Strange request, but I am looking for a replacement door handle for my back door. Mine snapped.  I have one of those common Coburg/Preston old doors & I have checked the big home recycle store on Sydney Road in Fawkner & the recycle centre off of Newlands Road with no luck. 

Any advice much appreciated or if you have a spare sitting around more than happy to pay.

This incinerator proposal to lock in the burning  of 10 million tonnes of industrial, residential, and demolition waste just 15 km to our north in Wollert and will redfine living in Melbourne's north
