The Poetry Sessions
August is Poetry Month! Writing Days is excited to be hosting some special poetry workshops for the month of August–
THE POETRY SESSIONS and BETWEEN RIVERS (poetry and ceramics workshop).
For all you poets out there, we hope you can join us at THE POETRY SESSIONS. If you’re looking for some quality poetry writing time these are the workshops for you. Facilitated by Lou Smith from Writing Days, each session will focus on a different element of poetry using writing prompts to get your creativity flowing. Come and write in a relaxed environment, there’s no pressure to share your work, this is purely space and time for you to write and meet fellow writers. You’re welcome to come to one workshop or come to all.
Week 1: ‘Dis poetry is like a riddim dat drops’: Musicality and rhythm
Week 2: A Feast for the Senses: Developing Imagery
Week 3: Writing themes: Memory and Place
Week 4: Brevity and the short form
Wednesday mornings, 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th August 10.30am–12pm.
$100 for 4 weeks (or $28 for each individual workshop)
Also, join us for BETWEEN RIVERS a poetry and ceramics workshop facilitated by Lou Smith from Writing Days and ceramicist Elnaz Nourizadeh curator of Mesopotamia Arts Space. The name Mesopotamia comes from the Greek word meaning ‘between rivers’, and Mesopotamia Arts Space is located near the confluence of Merri Creek and Edgars Creek, Coburg North. Poet Lou Smith will guide participants using writing prompts to write a poem on the theme of water which you will then create into a surface decoration on a ceramic piece under the supervision of Elnaz Nourizadeh.
Sunday 18th August 10.30am–2pm (3 hours with half-hour break), $135.00
Both The Poetry Sessions and Between Rivers will be held at the wonderful Mesopotamia Art Space, 62 Newlands Rd, Coburg North, Naarm. Tea and bickies provided.

Celebration
Stay Tuned, Stay Radical – a celebration of Jane BrownriggOur friend Jane Brownrigg was a passionate supporter of local music, community radio and environmental causes. You would have seen her down the front at live music events every week, heard her on the airwaves on the ‘Music Matters’ show on 3CR, been greeted by her bright smile at RRR or PBS reception, or joined her on the streets in celebration and support at public rallies.Sadly, Jane passed away in May 2024 after a long journey with cancer. Jane's passion and commitment to all that she valued and loved never waned, and her involvement and enjoyment in life played out to the very end, including her broadcasting at 3CR.As a music lover and radio host, Jane had amassed an impressive collection of CDs from Australian artists. It was Jane’s wish that her music collection go to good homes and that all proceeds from sales go towards her favourite organisations.Record Paradise in Brunswick is honoured to host a community weekend on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July to offer CDs from Jane’s collection to the public.100% of proceeds will go to Jane’s favourite community radio stations – Triple R 102.7 FM, PBS 106.7 FM and 3CR Community Radio 855 AM - and environmental organisations. With most CDs selling for just $5, we invite Jane’s friends and fellow music fans to join us at Record Paradise to celebrate Jane and her passion and commitment to Australian music whilst raising funds for causes closest to Jane’s heart. All are welcome!Stay Tuned, Stay Radical – a celebration of Jane BrownriggWhere:Record Paradise159 Sydney Rd BrunswickWhen:Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th July 202410am-5pm
