Welcome Bag Project

Untitled-2

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated to the Welcome Bag Project. It was an overwhelming response and such a pleasure to meet so many generous locals.

This Newlands community, along with the Darebin branch of the ABA and Gower St Kindergarten donated nearly enough stationary to make 160 school back packs! The bags are chocked full of goodies ready for the children to start school. There is such an amazing range. Beautiful colourful bags for the youngest learners and bags complete with USBs, maths sets and folders for the older kids.  I can not possibly store anymore back packs at my house but I would really like to complete all the bags that have been donated. To do this I need the following.

16 large lunchboxes
60 exercise books (more if possible as I'd love to give each child at least 2 each)
20 packs of coloured pencils
20 large pencil cases (to fit a 30cm ruler in)
34 glues
10 sharpeners
10 rulers
30 scissors
4 packs of coloured textas
44 small plastic containers or sandwich boxes as some of the lunch bags donated were a bit small

If you are still interested in donating or have people in your network that wish to donate it would be great if you could chose from the above list and let me know what you can be responsible for.

Sadly there has been some delay in the government processing these refugees and they did not arrive for the start of the school year as we had anticipated. We are still going ahead with the project and hope that these bags act as symbols of our welcome but also practical assistance that will encourage and support their education.

Thank you to everyone for their support.

Andrea.
